Sticker labelsare a type of a piece of paper or plastic, adhesive and sticky on one side. Usually there is a design on the other side. They can be used for decoration, depending on the situation. These kind of labels can come in various different shapes, sizes and colours. They are often put on things such as lunchboxes, in children's rooms, on paper, lockers, notebooks and so on. Some people even collect and trade stickers with other collectors. Temporary name tags are usually stickers as they are really convenient.

Sticker labelsare very widely used when an object requires identification, either a word or some other idea. Brand stickers may be attached to products to label these products as coming from a certain company. They may also be used to describe some characteristics of the products which would not be obvious from simple examinations. A label dispenser is often used as a convenient way to separate the sticky label from its liner or backing tape. Besides the above mentioned uses, there is a special kind of sticker labels: bumper stickers. Considerable variation exists around the world as to the context and purpose of stickers. On some vehicles, some stickers are like trophy signs of WWII aeroplanes, either of locations visited or actions completed. This kind of stickers have also been extensively applied to rear windows as well, where legislative measures have not banned such use. For instance in some countries that is the normal place to put them and the bumper sticker is actually called “rear window decal”.

The first bumper stickers appeared shortly before World War II. They were flag-like, and attached to the bumper by wires. Gill replaced the wire attachments with pressure sensitive adhesive, and as a result bumper stickers became more widespread and practical.More recently, bumper stickers have become a route for advertising. There are some companies offering to match car owners to advertisers who are willing to pay for the ad.
